Union Match brand
Union Match is one of the most famous and authentic A-brands on the Belgian and Luxembourg market. The well-known yellow boxes have been in all households for over 100 years. Because of the many different sizes, there is always a Union Match match for the right moment. Union Match's quality standard is unsurpassed in terms of durability, safety and the environment.
History
In 1912, “Union Allumettiere” was created in Geraardsbergen. The boxes have been in all households ever since: 3 crossed flares on a bright yellow background. Under an arched “Union Match” are the interlaced U and A.
The match production concentrated around Geraardsbergen knew golden times in the 1950s, but at the end of the 1960s the first problems arose with the introduction of the disposable lighter. Added to this later came the automatic spark for gas stoves, making “the little cutting” less popular. To keep the production and quality of the Union Match match high, production was moved to Swedish Match in the late 20th century.
Made in Sweden
Sweden is pre-eminently the country to produce matches. First of all, there is plenty of Aspen (poplar) wood available. This type of wood has ideal characteristics. It does not splinter, is somewhat flexible, does not break easily and is strong. The cool climate is ideal for allowing the matches to cool sufficiently during the process to ensure the desired quality.
Therefore, Union Match is still the best match on the market and Union Match's quality standard is unsurpassed in terms of safety and environment.
