UNION MATCH

Union Match

Union Match is one of the most famous and authentic A-brands on the Belgian market. A household name in the Belgian retail landscape for over 100 years. In 1912 “Union Allumettiere” was founded in Geraardsbergen. The boxes have been in all households since then: 3 crossed torches on a bright yellow background. Under an arc-shaped “Union Match” are the intertwined U and A.

Match production, concentrated around Geraardsbergen, had a golden age in the 1950s, but the first problems arose at the end of the 1960s with the introduction of the disposable lighter. Later on came the automatic spark for gas stoves, which made "the cutting" less popular. In order to keep the production and quality of the Union Match match high, production was moved to Swedish Match at the end of the 20th century.

Made in Sweden

Sweden is the country par excellence to produce matches. First of all, there is plenty of aspen (poplar) wood available. This type of wood has the ideal characteristics. It does not splinter, is somewhat flexible, does not break easily and is strong. The cool climate is ideal for allowing the matches to cool sufficiently during the process to ensure the desired quality.

Union Match is therefore still the best match on the market and the Union Match quality standard is unsurpassed in terms of safety and the environment.
